Leslie Noel Hansen

PRESIDENT & FOUNDER

Leslie Noel Hansen is the Founding Artistic Director of the Peter Pan Foundation. Since starting the Peter Pan Foundation in 2007, she has taken the PPF family from just a handful of participants to thousands of performers, volunteers and partners.

  • With over two decades of experience in teaching, directing, performing, playwriting, songwriting and philanthropy, and a passion for helping others and her uplifting, fun-loving and authentic personality, Leslie has found her calling as the award-winning founder and artistic director of our magnificent foundation. A two-time Tony award nominee for education, she has received such honors as the Jefferson Award for Public Service, Diablo Magazine’s Threads Of Hope Award, the Comcast Bay Area News Group Hometown Hero Award, Contra Costa County’s Arts Recognition Award, and the AT&T Community Spotlight Award. She is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of the Peter Pan Foundation.
Along with running The Peter Pan Foundation, Leslie is an active singing teacher, performer, and playwright in the bay area. She has run her private vocal studio, Leslie Noel Studios, for 25 years. In her onstage performing career, Leslie is best known for her original musical production of My Own Fairytale, which made its workshop debut in Berkeley at The Marsh and Freight & Salvage. She can also be found on the weekends performing with The Peter Pan Foundation at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, or delivering musical magic for Make-A-Wish Foundation.
As a singer, Leslie’s professional journey began in Italy, where she studied under Lorenzo Malfatti and performed in the opera L’amore delle tre melerance. There, she also worked with-and befriended- Franc D’Ambrosio (world’s longest running Phantom of the Opera) and became the opening act for his Broadway tour. To this day, Leslie still performs opera and musical theatre with her angel of music, Franc.
As a founder and director, it all started when she endured a severe, near-death illness at age 17, and later lost a dear friend and student, Steffen, to a car crash in the summer of 2006. It was at that point that Leslie made the fateful decision to turn down offers to pursue Broadway, and chose, instead, to pursue her true passion of community service. Leslie started the Peter Pan Foundation to combine her love for helping others with her passion for the performing arts. She also sought to create a safe space for all people, focused on inclusion, where everyone would always be truly welcome. Leslie quickly found that the ability to inspire others is a true gift, and has dedicated her life to inspiring others to use their own talents and energy to make positive changes for those around them. This passion has caused the Peter Pan Foundation to grow into an organization-and lifestyle-that has truly changed our community, and in many ways, our world, for the better.
“The Peter Pan Foundation is a place of love, light, individuality, talent, friendship, inclusion, philanthropy, music, art, connection... one which supports and celebrates the beauty of authenticity, diversity, empathy, music, and magic. PPF is about making magic in the world by realizing that -with all of the incredible, strong, passionate, radiant, inspiring people on this planet- the magic is already there.“ - Leslie Noel Hansen

Grant Feuer

BOARD MEMBER

Grant’s journey with PPF began when he was just ten years old. From that moment on, PPF became a huge part of his life and identity. Over the years, he grew from performer to leader, serving as President of the Bay Area Magic Makers and as the Executive Assistant to PPF’s founder.

  • Through countless productions, events, and lifelong friendships, PPF has been the creative community that shaped him from childhood into adulthood.

While Grant spent much of his life performing and creating magic on stage, he eventually found a new outlet for his creativity in the world of design and innovation. After earning his degree from Chapman University in Orange County, he channeled his passion for storytelling and aesthetics into a career in home furnishings product development. Today, he has worked for some of the largest home retailers in the country including Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, and currently West Elm to help bring inspired ideas to life in people’s homes.

Even with this exciting professional path, PPF remains close to Grant’s heart. The lessons, joy, and community he’s found through the organization continue to influence every part of his life. He truly can’t imagine who he’d be — or where he’d be — without PPF.

Dr. Joe Torkildson

LEAD PHYSICIAN, HEMATOLOGY/ONCOLOGY, BANNER CHILDREN’S SERVICES

Joe has lived a significant portion of his adult life in the East Bay. He moved to Oakland in 1982 after completing medical school in Milwaukee, WI to complete a residency in Pediatrics at the Naval Medical Center.

  • In the process he met and married his wife of over 35 years, Christy, and they had their first two daughters. They moved to Los Angeles in 1987 where Joe completed a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles. He then served 10 years at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. While there he developed his interests in quality improvement and business, and he and Christy had their second two daughters. In 2000 he and his family moved to San Antonio TX where he served as the Director of Clinical Operations at the Department of Defense Pharmacoeconomic Center. During this time, he also received his MBA degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio. In 2003 he and Christy made the decision to move back to Oakland so Christy could realize her dream of being a member of the team that opened the first pediatric residential end-of-life facility in the United States, the George Mark House. Joe assumed the role of Director of the Neuro-Oncology Program at what eventually became USCF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, a position he held for 16 years.

Besides being the proud father of Kirsten, a now adult PPF performer, Joe is extremely committed to the mission of the PPF. Although he and Christy moved to Gilbert, AZ in 2019 he remains active on the Board while also doing his “day job” as the lead physician for Hematology/Oncology for Banner Children’s Services in Phoenix. He believes his background in process improvement and organizational dynamics will continue to prove useful to the PPF as it grows in size and continues its progress toward being a regional leader in providing opportunities for children to become confident in their talents while learning to become responsible members of their communities. And he hopes that there will be ongoing opportunities for him to perform with this immensely talented group of “children of all ages”!
