Born and raised in Denmark, Ms. Ryge moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1982. She graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a degree in Anthropology two weeks prior to the birth of her second child, her son Steffen. Ms. Ryge then dedicated her time to raising her children, taking care of their home and volunteering for various community functions. She served on the Board of Directors of the Diablo Valley Montessori School, first heading up a successful nationwide search for a new school director, later serving as the president of the board of directors. When her youngest child graduated from the Montessori School Ms. Ryge moved on to volunteer on various elementary and middle school committees, especially those connected to the music and theater programs which her children were participating in. Ms. Ryge also served on the Happy Valley Walkway Committee, helping raise the funds needed to have a paved walkway run the length of this neighborhood artery.
Ms. Ryge’s interests, activities and involvements are many and varied. She loves to bake and cook. An avid gardener, she has designed, built and installed hardscape and gardens for both family and friends. She is a founding member of her book group which has been reading and discussing books together for over 20 years. Ms. Ryge is an avid cyclist, as well as cross-country and down-hill skier. She hikes, kayaks, and sails, but in the last 4 years, her biggest passion has become ballroom dancing.
Having had the fortune to travel extensively, Ms. Ryge has traveled to visit her family and friends in Denmark almost annually. She has traveled to Russia, China, all 5 Scandinavian Countries as well as most of the countries in the EU. She has even lived in Texas.
Ms. Ryge is the mother of Steffen Ryge, the original Peter Pan of the Peter Pan Foundation.
